Advanced Manufacturing Planning Cockpit

Confirming a sale should not start production before anyone has chosen a recipe or a supplier, or checked the drawings. The cockpit holds every manufactured order position in a draft plan and releases manufacturing, purchase and subcontracting orders only when the planner approves it, with cost and margin known in advance.

Architecture: commercial equipment manufacturing · make-to-order positions

The problem

Standard Odoo releases production at the wrong moment.

In standard Odoo, confirming a sales order fires procurement immediately: manufacturing orders, purchase requests and subcontracting orders exist before anyone has picked a bill of materials, a vendor or a subcontractor.

For a made-to-order equipment manufacturer every order position is a one-off configuration with its own drawings. Releasing it at confirmation means cancelling and re-creating documents whenever engineering decides, and the margin of each position is only known once the costs have already been committed.

Changes to a confirmed order also flow through silently, so production and purchasing find out late.

What we engineered

A planning stage between the sale and the factory.

Hold and plan

  • Manufactured lines are held at confirmation: no stock move, manufacturing order or purchase request is created.
  • A draft plan opens with one position per held line; the sales order tells the team that production opens once the plan is approved.
  • Lines added to a confirmed order join the draft plan; lines added after approval open a new revision.
  • Plans can also be opened without a sales order.

Recipe and supply per component

  • Each position gets a recipe: select one, create a new one, or copy the selected one.
  • The recipe expands into a component tree of up to 12 levels; each component is set to manufacture, subcontract (subcontractor and price) or purchase (vendor, price, currency).
  • An undetermined component blocks release; positions covered by free finished stock are flagged "in stock" and need no recipe.
  • Semi-finished, raw-material and subcontracted parts are quick-created with coded references and the right routes.

Drawings in Documents

  • Configurable document types, by default a technical drawing and an unfolding sheet.
  • File requests in a folder tree per project, order and position, with upload activities for the responsible users.
  • Uploading a file closes the request; a one-click waiver marks it as not needed.

Readiness, approval and cost

  • Readiness per position (recipe, units, supply, sub-recipes, subcontractors, documents, dates) with the first blocking reason shown.
  • Approve one position or the whole plan; the full chain is stamped with the position and the project.
  • Cost rolled up live in company currency, split into purchase, subcontracting and in-house material, against the discounted subtotal for a margin per position and per plan.
  • Revisions, cancellation, a date Gantt and an A4 Production Output sheet without prices for the floor and subcontractors.

How it works

From confirmed order to released production.

  1. Order confirmed, production held

Manufactured lines are held; plan PLAN/2026/0001 opens in Planned with one position per line.

  2. Recipe and component tree

The planner picks or builds the recipe and sets a supply type for every component.

  3. Drawings requested

Technical drawing and unfolding sheet requests appear in Documents; uploads close them, or they are marked not needed.

  4. Dates and readiness

Production and delivery dates are applied; the position turns Ready once nothing blocks it.

  5. Approval

Approve on a position or Approve plan on the whole plan: the plan becomes Partially approved or Approved.

  6. Orders generated

The manufacturing order with the chosen recipe and dates, sub-assembly orders, raw-material RFQs and subcontracting orders with their resupply are created and stamped with the position.

  7. Changes and revisions

Purchasing and production status tags follow the documents; order changes after approval are logged and notified; Revise cancels open orders and raises the revision.

Integration points

Built on the Odoo applications you already use.

Planning cockpitpositions · recipes · readiness · cost
  • Sales

Held lines, the planning alert and a Plan badge on each order line.

  • Manufacturing

One manufacturing order per position with its recipe and dates; MOs never merge across positions.

  • Purchase

Raw-material RFQs from the vendor list, split by vendor currency.

  • Inventory & subcontracting

Subcontracting orders, resupply and receipts through the six-route blueprint.

  • Documents

Folder tree per project, order and position with file requests.

  • Project

Every generated document stamped with the project.
