Custom Shop-Floor Applications

Laboratory operators work gloved at benches and freezers. The lab floor is a full-screen, tablet-first application where they sign in with a PIN or face recognition, see the queue of their own work centres and produce lot-traced orders with one tap.

Architecture: life-sciences kit production · tablet floor

The problem

The back office is the wrong screen for the bench.

Standard manufacturing screens are dense and need a personal login per user; on a shared tablet at a freezer that slows everyone down.

Standard Odoo Shop Floor presents work orders as step-by-step checklists per work centre. The kit flow needs something else: the order hierarchy (children before parent), the configurator's component breakdown and the LOT on screen.

Operators also must not be asked to answer back-office wizards on the floor.

What we engineered

A separate application, built for the kit flow.

Sign-in

  • Operator tiles and a numeric PIN, stored hashed and managed by lab managers on the user form.
  • Face recognition in the browser with liveness prompts (open mouth, random head turn, frontal capture) and 1:N matching on the server with a distance threshold and a margin to the runner-up.
  • Face templates never leave the server; an erase action removes them.

The queue

  • Orders auto-assigned to lab operations (oligo, oligo mix, PC, kit, standard, LoD kit, LoD PC) from the product kind.
  • Each lane is bound to a work centre and visible only to allowed operators; lab managers see all.
  • Kanban lanes or a grouped list, drag to reorder (remembered per device), Orders, My Orders, Statistics; installable as an app.

Order view and Produce

  • LOT, components with quantity, concentration, tube hint, oligo number, water back-fill badge, reserved lots and availability, plus child and source orders.
  • Produce checks that sub-components exist (children before parent), ensures the LOT, finishes the work orders, closes the order and records the operator.
  • If Odoo would need a wizard (backorder, consumption), the order is handed back to the back office.

Statistics

  • Produced, open and cancelled orders, share and status by operation, a 14-day trend and top products, for the operator or the whole lab.

How it works

From sign-in to a lot-traced, finished order.

  1. Sign in

The operator taps a tile and enters the PIN, or signs in by face.

  2. Own lanes

The board shows only the lanes of the operator's work centres.

  3. Open the order

Components, concentrations, water back-fill, availability and the LOT are on one screen.

  4. Children first

A parent order shows "Produce its components first" until its children are done.

  5. Produce

One tap finishes the work orders and closes the order; the chatter records the operator.

  6. Confirmation

A toast shows the order and its LOT; the parent order unblocks.

  7. Statistics

My Orders and Statistics show what was produced, per operator and per operation.

Integration points

A floor client on top of standard manufacturing records.

Lab floortablet · PIN or face · one tap
  • Manufacturing

Manufacturing orders, work orders, quantities and the done state.

  • Inventory

The kit LOT ensured and recorded on produced quantities.

  • Kit production plan

Lanes and breakdown come from the kit configurator's component kinds.

  • Users

Operator PINs and face templates managed on the user form.
